95 Days and Counting...

A note of encouragement from Heather Byrne about last year's SC:

Hey Mr. B! My name is Heather Byrne and I attended S.C. 07. I was a 10 year old Galatian (go Galatians!!!) and really enjoyed spending my week at church, having fun and glorifying God, all at the same time. I want to thank you for all the hard work and energy that was put into doing this for us kids. I also want to let you know how encouraging the volunteers were. They weren't only encouraging to have good sportsmanship and kind hearts, but by their actions and by the way that they spoke. My coach (Juli Lackey) was VERY encouraging and involved in my group. She taught me that losing but still having good sportsmanship makes you a winner. In fact, all of the volunteers in my group were very sweet and encouraging. Again, thank you for everything that was put into Summer Celebration and everything YOU put into Summer Celebration. I will miss not being able to be apart of Summer Celebration next year but can't wait till' I'll be able to become a volunteer! God bless you, Mrs. B and Caly the Cutie!!! One Love One God One Way, Heather B. P.S. I loved watching the Tree House Gang!!!

Each Summer Celebration brings a batch of new songs for us to learn together.  You can get a head start by learning the Phil Joel song "The 'Love' Song".  Phil Joel's cd is entitled Deliberate Kids.  It's a must buy for any kiddo (or teen, or parent for that matter).

You can listen to clips of these songs (or buy) at http://www.deliberatepeople.com

FYI: This album will soon be available in the CLC Bookstore.

98 Days and Counting...

For those of you less familiar with Summer Celebration, our time together is spent learning (in interactive ways) from Matthew 5:14-16.

“You are the light of the world. A city set on a hill cannot be hidden. Nor do people light a lamp and put it under a basket, but on a stand, and it gives light to all in the house. In the same way, let your light SHINE before others, so that they may see your good works and give glory to your Father who is in heaven.”

Our desire is for kids to learn, "We bring God joy by showing others what He is like". We sum this idea up in a single word: SHINE

Past years have included lessons on Humility, Respect, Honesty, Self-Control, Perseverance, Patience, Faithfulness, Compassion, Kindness, Responsibility, Wisdom, Courage, and Gratitude.

I'm pleased to announce the character traits for Summer Celebration 2008:

HonorShowing others how valuable they are in your actions.
Matthew 7:12 - So whatever you wish that others would do to you, do also to them, for this is the Law and the Prophets.

LoveChoosing to give someone your time and attention no matter what.
Matthew 22:37–39 – And he said to him, "You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind. This is the great and first commandment. And a second is like it: You shall love your neighbor as yourself.

Forgiveness Deciding that someone who has wronged you doesn’t have to pay.
Colossians 3:13 – Bearing with one another and, if one has a complaint against another, forgiving each other; as the Lord has forgiven you, so you also must forgive.

ContentmentChoosing to be happy with what you have.
I Timothy 6:6-7 – Now there is great gain in godliness with contentment, for we brought nothing into the world, and we cannot take anything out of the world.

Perseverance Deciding to finish what you started even when it's hard.
Verse – Hebrews 12:1-2 – Therefore, since we are surrounded by so great a cloud of witnesses, let us also lay aside every weight, and sin which clings so closely, and let us run with endurance the race that is set before us, looking to Jesus, the founder and perfecter of our faith, who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross, despising the shame, and is seated at the right hand of the throne of God.

99 Days and Counting...

I'm pleased to announce that our beloved Mr. C will once again host the camp with me. We are thrilled that he will be bringing his silly songs, costumes, crazy hats, and (of course) the pies. I wonder what he has in store for us this year.

Post a comment with the appropriate caption for the picture to the left. Prizes will be awarded.
