For those of you less familiar with Summer Celebration, our time together is spent learning (in interactive ways) from Matthew 5:14-16. “You are the light of the world. A city set on a hill cannot be hidden. Nor do people light a lamp and put it under a basket, but on a stand, and it gives light to all in the house. In the same way, let your light SHINE before others, so that they may see your good works and give glory to your Father who is in heaven.”
Our desire is for kids to learn, "We bring God joy by showing others what He is like". We sum this idea up in a single word: SHINE
Past years have included lessons on Humility, Respect, Honesty, Self-Control, Perseverance, Patience, Faithfulness, Compassion, Kindness, Responsibility, Wisdom, Courage, and Gratitude.
I'm pleased to announce the character traits for Summer Celebration 2008:
Honor – Showing others how valuable they are in your actions.
Matthew 7:12 - So whatever you wish that others would do to you, do also to them, for this is the Law and the Prophets.
Love – Choosing to give someone your time and attention no matter what.
Matthew 22:37–39 – And he said to him, "You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind. This is the great and first commandment. And a second is like it: You shall love your neighbor as yourself.
Forgiveness – Deciding that someone who has wronged you doesn’t have to pay.
Colossians 3:13 – Bearing with one another and, if one has a complaint against another, forgiving each other; as the Lord has forgiven you, so you also must forgive.
Contentment – Choosing to be happy with what you have.
I Timothy 6:6-7 – Now there is great gain in godliness with contentment, for we brought nothing into the world, and we cannot take anything out of the world.
Perseverance – Deciding to finish what you started even when it's hard.
Verse – Hebrews 12:1-2 – Therefore, since we are surrounded by so great a cloud of witnesses, let us also lay aside every weight, and sin which clings so closely, and let us run with endurance the race that is set before us, looking to Jesus, the founder and perfecter of our faith, who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross, despising the shame, and is seated at the right hand of the throne of God.
