63 days and counting...

Volunteers, thanks for coming to our kickoff pizza meeting yesterday. I loved your enthusiasm!!!

I don't know if you saw it, but Juli Lackey had a group of folks dressed in Galatian blue to represent their team. I was shocked. Team spirit already. Well done.

Some stats from the meeting:
*About 200 folks expressed an interest in serving.
*47 pizzas were consumed
*Parents and all, we had about 250 peeps in attendance.

A letter will go out in the next couple of weeks to let you know how you can best serve the kids this year based on our need and the desired position you expressed on the gold flyer. Thanks for your patience.

In the meantime, let's brainstorm.

How can we do a better job greeting the kids this year? I love the tunnel but it can be overwhelming. Leave your comments.

Umm... I dunno. Last year, didn't we have a tunnel through one set of doors and nothing through the other?

Just a thought... maybe we could have SC07 stickers, kinda like the ones they had for the youth retreat this past year.

I like the sticker idea. I will have to get our graphics department to work on that asap.

Thanks Elizabeth!

Ya, greeting was always fun but maybe not for all the kids...HaHa, I'll never forget the faces of the scared ones...oh man, I felt so bad! How a kid can be scared and adorable at the same time is a mystery to me. Anyway, stickers sound really fun! Maybe we all could have like "posts"...Hmm...

aw, I really liked the tunnel! well, don't call it that, it sounds scary...something more like: 2 lines of excited teens ready to greet kids! well, if we don't do that than how about every day a new group of volunteers (like maybe 10-20 or so) to stand outside and inside to greet. not in two lines though...!

no tunnel. a lot of the kids hate it.

Why don't we have all the people greeting wait in the lobby and each find an individual kid as they arrive. Welcome them, help them get where they are supposed to be, draw them out, get to know them, have fun...

The welcome tunnel is scary for the first two days, but by the end of the week, some of the kids can't wait to run through! I think it adds to the excitement going into SC. There should definately be another set of doors open as an alternative route for parents, strollers, and small people. I wouldn't remove the tunnel completely though.

I would say that for some of the kids, the “tunnel” was very intimidating. What if we put like tons of balloons at the front door to make it inviting, but not have all of the volunteers standing there screaming. I like the idea of just walking around and interacting with the kids as they come it. I think that a few people at the doors to welcome the kids would be good , but not so many that it makes the shy kids cry!

My little sister really liked the tunnel last year and wanted to go through it again this year.
I think you should keep it.
Although I really don't like it when kids are shy and get freaked out by things like the tunnel.

Okay, we have a lot of Galation lovers, huh? That's cool... :D
Yeah, we need to either have no tunnel, or a tunnel and some other way of getting in. Honestly, I kinda liked the tunnel.

what if insted of a TUNNEL of balloons, we did like two lines of PILLARS of balloons. like little bunches of balloons lining the way into the lobby or whatever.

I can't wait for SUMMER CELEBRATION!
Personaly I don't like the tunnel.
I had to go though it when I was in summer celebration. And someone almost tripped me. What about like "the wave" or something.
Can't wait to serve,
Jojo Minard :)

2 years ago i was in it and i couldnt stand the tunnel. (and i still dont like it now) ;-) yeah i was thinking that we should have a tunnel of balloons and maybe like 5-10 greeters.

I went to summer celebration 2 years ago, and I absolutely HATED that tunnel. I agree with having a tunnel of balloons and 5-10 greeters. I hope if we go with the balloon idea, we don't have them pop.

Aww, having the balloons pop is the best part! :P
