59 days and counting...

The games from the last two years have been a huge success. Dodge ball always seems to be the favorite. Squirt was wet but refreshing in the summer heat. And what kid doesn't like capture the flag?

What games would you all choose for our teams this year?

I think that squirt was a little hard for the little kids to understand, I think that we played it on the day theme of "kindness" my group was kinda treating squirt like "hot potato" trying to make sure that everyone got a turn throughing it over. It was so cute how they were "sharing".

I def think we should have capture the flag.

My three younger siblings said they LOVED squirt and were hoping they could play it again this year...

I was with sarah last year helping with little 6 year oid girls that had no idea what they were sopposed to do with the ball for squirt. But dogeball is my Favorite!!!

i'm going with dogdeball! I still love having dogdeball competitions with my friends, and my little sibs like it too.

Can we do some sort of obstacle course? I had a few kids ask for one last year. Personally, I think capture the flag works only if there're hills and stuff -- not on a flat field. But that's just me. It just seemed like that was fun for only some of the kids -- the quieter slower ones were bored. Just a thought. I trust Tucker's judgement. I think. ;-)

Definitely squirt and dodgeball, I dunno about capture the flag

who doesn't like capture the flag? Me! :) But I'm not playing the games, and I think the kids all liked it. I had 6yr olds last year and they definately had *no clue* what they were doing with Squirt. Maybe that game could just be for the older kids?

I dunno. I think the little kids ought to be able to play Squirt too, but maybe a simpler version of, it, if it was confusing to them?

honestly, Squirt was way too hard for the 6 y/o girls. They really wanted to just get wet. I think they would have liked a "sponge toss" better. But, the older kids seemed to really like squirt.

I still vote that we play soccer!!!

dodgeball is a must have for summer celebration! capture the flag is great too, but how many of the kids will really get it and have fun? going with what kristen said about a "sponge toss" why not have water ballo tosses? just for refreshment from the heat?

ya! a water ballon toss sounds like fun! i think since squirt was a little hard for the kids to understand, but they still like getting wet and all, a water balloon toss is a great idea!! im with you nelly. who else is with me and nelly?

Water balloons would work. But would we still be doing squirt with the older kids???

ya my 6 y/o girls def didn't really get the idea of squirt it was really funnny to watch them though and some of them just kept asking when we could go inside I think Krsiten's idea of a sponge toss sounds good for the lil' kids I really think we should do an obstacle course or relay race instead of capture the flag I remember at Celebration those was my favorite games and I really didn't have too much fun with capture the flag so ya that my thoughts

the thing about the water balloon toss is that although the older kids like squirt, i think the like 80% of the kids would like the water balloon toss better than squirt...thats just my take on it.

I think the games we had last year were great! However, for the younger kids they were a little bit hard to play, especially squirt and dodgeball. I was a captain for 6-year old girls and most of them preferred to just sit and watch other kids play games or play duck duck goose,etc.--you know the classic kids games. I find when the games are things that the kids can play easily they participate more and have more fun. Hey...but now that we have the new playground, can that be one of the stations that we stop at during the week. Of course you can't please everyone, but keep in mind the younger children who have a hard time with athletically challenging sports.

Actually, at Celbration, I really dind't like the obstacle course that much. Dodgeball and capture-the-flag are honestly my favorites.

Can we have the teens play against the kids again this year? That was really really fun.

Oh, and Mr. Bradshaw, can we see if we can the teams to be roughly the same size? I'm not sure how they were split in the past, but the Galatians team seemed to be the biggest, by a long shot. Would there be a way to make the teams pretty much even after everyone signs up?

squirt was fun...but it was hard for the 6 year olds to get..i like the idea of having a simple version of it so the 6 year olds could have fun doing it...oh! and do coaches and ass. coaches get to play this year? it's a great way to interact with the kids by getting hit in the face with a dodgeball. haha

I have no clue wat squirt is! lol i was not here the first two years! :( i know it is very horrible! i think capture the flag is an awesome game to play because every child has fun playing it... i know i do! and i remeber dodge ball... that game ROCKS!!!!

Liana, squirt is when you soak up a Nerf-type ball with water and i think its kind of like volleyball isnt it? except you dont bump, set, or spike it.

(i think thats how you play it.)

Sounds cool! never heard of it before till you said what it was. pretty amazing*

Definitely dodgeball! What is squirt? I wasn't there last year.

How about we have all three? If we can fit it all in...that's my opinion.

Squirt is a type of Volleyball that Josh Tucker made up. It's kinda(well, really) different than normal volleyball because the ball isn't a ball, it's a huge sponge ball. Anyhow, it's pretty fun, because they get the "ball" wet every few minutes. Since it's heavy (because it's wet and all), the kids generally threw it over the net and the other team caught it, rather than trying to hit it back. That made for some really wet but happy kids!

That answer your question, Drew?

If we only can have one, then definately CAPTURE THE FLAG!!!

If we can have more, then I would want all three.

Anonymous said...

Um... I'll go with capture the flag.
With squirt though, I did see a few kids that did not want to get wet. They sorta hung back and didn't try to catch it.
