53 days and counting...

At SC'06 wristbands were handed out as a way to "honor what God honors" in awarding kids with a "Faithfulness Wristband" (Patience, Kindness, Compassion and Endurance Wristbands).

How can we improve the wristbands and make sure the kids know why this was awarded to them?

I'm thinking we need to have wristbands available for each camper. Your thoughts?

the group leaders could have index cards, when they notice something that a child has done that deserves a wristband, they write it down and attach it to the wrist band. for example:

"Kaitlyn earned the endurance wristband when she kept running the race even after she scraped her knee..."

....Or something like that...

Sounds good. I'm not exactly sure, beyond that.

I love your facial expression there, Mr. Bradshaw! :P you must have been in the middle of saying "shine" or something.

Any idea when the shirt design(s) will be up?

I think thats cool. having the group leaders give it to someone who's showing Godliness. Like the group leaders carry them with them or they could get awarded them?/? Like at Celebration a couple years ago they gave stickers to who ever was being kind or showed Godliness. I thought wrist bands were a cool idea! How ever you use them is fine!

This is gonna be AWESOME! I also remeber in the "old" celebration getting stickers, i remeber the joy I had when i got one! It is wonderful to see kids being rewarded for their love for God!

yeah i remember the old celebration. i too was SO excited when i got a sticker! yeah that would be cool if the coach or assistant coach would carry them around and give one to a kid he/she saw doing that thing. it will also encourage the kids to be godly and all the other things we are doing. and it would also be cool if you could get the wristbands in the team color and maybe black lettering saying "gratitude" or something. yep...

the thing about the stickers is a great idea...but where would you put them? I mean, at the old celebration we had hard name tags, which we could keep for like ever and see the stickers. these kids at SC'07 will only have their shirts or the paper name tags, and the stickers would get ruined. maybe something that they could keep for a long time would be better! just a thought...

i meant the coaches and ppl would carry the WRISTBANDS not the stickers.

ya your ideas sound good....I don't think I can think of anything else but I definatley think we should have wristbands for all the kids last year alot of times we had more kids for example showing kindness then wristbands to give out

Yepers! I remember the old Celebration also!
I never got any stickers though.
Probably cause I only went a few times, and they weren't doing them.

I like the wristband idea a lot. I think Kylie has a good idea with the index cards too. Maybe when the volunteer gives the kids the wristband, they could write a little note to the child on the index card. Even if it were just a sentence or two, I think it might be even more meaningful to the kids (especially the little ones) to have a personal note with the wristband.

that would be good. But what if there
are tons of kids to do? We might not have enough time to write. well I think either way is fine.
"Go RED (for Galatians)"

I really like the idea of writing a note for the kids w/the wristbands cause it will help them to know/remeber why their getting/got the wristband and I think it will be special to them

Mr B. I think it would help for the kids to know that they did something godly if you took another idea from Celebration: At the end of each day, call up all the kids who got a wristband onstage and 1. Publicly honor them and 2. Make it very clear what they got them for.

WAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHH!!!!!!!
GO GALATIONS!!!!!!!!!

Oh, and by the way, Galations are blue, not red.
Sorry, Brielle.

Mr. B,
The wristbands were great, but on the smaller kids they always seemed to be too big. Morgan's wrist is 6 1/2" around and she's 9! Last years bracelets were 8 1/2" (yes I measured one). Can you imagine how small the Kindergarteners wrists are?

How about a button with the SC logo. Printed inside the sun would have the Godly character (Patience, Kindness, Compassion, Endurance)with SC'07 underneath. Maybe even that day's verse?

At some point during the day the Volunteers could do thier own awards ceremony presenting the child with the button saying "This kid did this and this showed this godly character. Way to GO Joe!"

Great ideas. Thanks Jen for letting me know how big the wrist bands were on some kids.

RED RED RED It's red~ LOL

LOL LOL

Guys, let the Galatians be blue. Juli has invested a good bunch of money in that! :P

weren't the galations red and as you are all referring to it as "the old celebration"?!?!

the romans were blue.
the colosians were yellow.
and weren't the phillipans orange?

Elizabeth Kelley said...

I think they were green... but I'm nor sure. But yeah. We can hardly call it Celebration in this context... it would be too confusing.

Did anyone get notified if they are serving?
Just checking, because Mr. B said that the people are going to be notified THIS week. About 7 more hours until THIS week is done...but he might have meant till next Friday, which would be better(i think.)

Mike Bradshaw said...

Clarification, you will find out where you are serving by Friday, not a few hours from now.

Thanks everyone!

Thanks, I was getting worried.
Um, I heard that everyone 13yrs. and up will be serving from two people already. Is that true?

I think the wristband idea is great. Maybe you could award medals to the two kids who do the best job on the subject. It would encourage the other kids to try showing that characteristic better...

The wristband idea is great! Kylie's idea is a good one, too, I would consider it.

I like Kylie's idea, but I think they would get in the way when the kids are playing. Plus, how would the leaders attach the card to the wristband?

Elizabeth Kelley said...

Um, it wouldn't be too hard to, actually. You could punch a hole in the index card and put one of those chain things on it (anyone know what I'm talking about? ... the chains they use on military dog tags...), then loop that around the bracelet. That way, they could take it off and put it on. It wouldn't get in the way if they could do that.
